Check the simple controls

  • Confirm the boiler has power and the display is on.
  • Check that the thermostat is calling for heat.
  • Look for a visible fault code and write it down.
  • Check the pressure gauge against the normal range stated in the manufacturer’s instructions.

Do not remove the boiler casing

Gas appliances must only be worked on by an appropriately registered engineer. Do not bypass safety controls or repeatedly reset a boiler that continues to lock out.

If you smell gas

Leave the property, avoid switches or naked flames and contact the official gas emergency service from a safe place. Treat headaches, dizziness or a carbon-monoxide alarm as urgent warning signs.

Safety first. If there is immediate danger, fire, suspected gas escape or risk to life, leave the area and contact the appropriate emergency service. Online guidance cannot diagnose a property fault.
